Ivy Women’s Center specializes in helping women and men who are facing unplanned pregnancies. We will help you understand the options available to you, the costs you may encounter with each, and where to find quality, affordable healthcare in your community.
Will My Insurance Pay for My Girlfriend’s Abortion?
If your girlfriend is uninsured or on Medicaid, you may be wondering if your insurance plan will cover the cost of her abortion pill. Because most insurance plans only allow coverage for those you are in a legal relationship with, your girlfriend will not qualify for any coverage under your plan.
Additionally, if your girlfriend is covered by Medicaid, she will likely not qualify for abortion coverage. Ohio law restricts public funding from covering the cost of abortions, including the abortion pill, aside from cases of life endangerment, rape, or incest.
How Much Would My Girlfriend’s Abortion Cost?
If your girlfriend doesn’t qualify for coverage for the abortion pill, you will likely be looking at spending around $535 for the medication. Women seeking abortions after 10 weeks gestation will only be eligible for surgical abortion procedures, costing anywhere from $500 to $3,000.
You may also want to set aside funds for emergency surgery, follow-up care, and medications in case of abortion complications, as well as any pre-abortion screenings, such as lab-quality pregnancy testing, an ultrasound scan to determine the gestational age, and STD/STI testing and treatment.
